What Does Independent Mean?

by admin on 18 April, 2008

Bob Kilmister believes that the word Independent is causing great confusion on the ballot paper in Pembrokeshire.  There are 56 people using this term for the elections on 1st May.  In one seat there are five separate Independent candidates.

What is an Independent?  “I believe it is someone who is not a member of any political party nor do they belong to a grouping.  Nor should they have any intention of joining such a group after the elections”, said Bob Kilmister.

After the elections many of these so called Independents will join the Independent group on Pembrokeshire County Council and then they will act and vote as a group.  Their title on the ballot paper is deliberately misleading voters.

Others standing as Independents are known to be members of another Political Party.  How can they stand under this banner?
