There is now an excellent recycling scheme for North Pembrokeshire based in Newport.  Despite the failure of our County Council to provide us with any facilities to recycle plastics this group has organised an excellent scheme which I urge all residents to back.

To join the scheme you provide your name and address to the Health Food Shop in Newport and they will give you all the information you need.  You simply then take your collected products to the Long Street car park on the last Tuesday of each month between 5 & 7 pm.

Why the County Council finds it impossible to organise doorstep collections of recycled products in North Pembrokeshire simply amazes me.  The scheme in the South of the County is not terrific with 23% of orange bags going straight into landfill but at least there is a scheme in place.  By 2010 the County Council have to recycle 40% of waste collected or face fines from the Welsh Assembly.  At the rate they are proceeding we had better start saving our pennies now, as we shall all have to foot the bill for their complacency.
